The Baltimore Ravens defense is anchored by arguably the strongest secondary on offer in the league, thanks in no small part to the tremendous depth they possess amongst that unit.
That depth might have just been dealt a blow however, as the elder statesmen of their cornerback group was carted off of the training camp practice field with an apparent leg injury:
Jimmy Smith was carted off the field with a lower body injury with 20 minutes left of practice.

Smith has dealt with his fair share of injury issues over the course of his career and as he’s aged into a different role, Baltimore has assuredly come to recognize that as a part of the deal with the talented and versatile defender. Still, it’s a difficult loss for them as Tavon Young (another crucial depth piece at this position) has had similar problems with staying healthy over the last few years.
As we’ve seen time and again with the Ravens, a few injuries here and there can take one of the stronger secondaries in the league and reduce it to a top heavy unit reliant on its bigger stars. Depending on the severity of Smith’s injury in this case, they may in fact be preparing for this reality already.
