As The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec pointed out, Baltimore has two remaining draft picks to yet sign their contracts: third-round Georgia guard Ben Cleveland and third-round SMU defensive back Brandon Stephens.
Oweh was the latter of two first-round picks made by the Ravens in the 2021 NFL Draft. With the No. 27 overall pick, Baltimore selected Minnesota wide receiver Rashod Bateman. Then with the No. 31 overall pick, the Ravens drafted the athletic edge rusher out of Penn State.
Oweh failed to record a sack in his final season as a Nittany Lion, but don’t let that fool you into thinking he cannot get after the quarterback. Oweh is a rare athlete for the position with a freaky combination of size and speed. At 6’5” and nearly 260 pounds, Oweh ran a blazing 4.39 40-yard dash at Penn State’s Pro Day. He also had a 39.5-inch vertical leap and a broad jump of 134 inches.
Oweh’s rare athleticism shows up on tape, although his first step off the snap leaves a lot to be desired for someone with his incredible traits. Baltimore is confident that they can fix that and mold Oweh into an elite edge defender at the NFL level. With the loss of veterans Matthew Judon and Yannick Ngakoue in free agency, Oweh will be needed to make an impact in his rookie season.
Oweh finished his three-year collegiate career with 63 total tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks, two forced fumbles, and two passes defended.
