There’s no love lost on a few of these jersey numbers after their former owners were Ravens just a season ago. Matt Judon and his No. 99 will now go to his expected replacement, Odafe Oweh. Veteran running back Mark Ingram II was cut this offseason and now CB Brandon Stephens will take over No. 21, along with Shaun Wade, who many will be happy to forget the debacle in No. 29 being Earl Thomas III’s number. That number was also originally Marlon Humphrey’s when he joined the Ravens, which was then gifted from the young corner to the free agent addition.
The importance of jersey numbers has recently become a talking point after the NFL recently loosened restrictions on which positions could sport specific numbers. However, the entire Ravens rookie class still stuck with traditionally available numbers.
Ravens recent addition OT Alejandro Villanueva has also selected his jersey number, taking No. 78. This was his number with the Pittsburgh Steelers and also was Orlando Brown Jr.’s in Baltimore before being traded to the Kansas City Chiefs.
