The Ravens brought Sammy Watkins into Baltimore for a free agent visit on Tuesday. The veteran wide receiver left without signing a contract is now scheduled to meet with the Indianapolis Colts today.

Usually, a player visiting a team and leaving without agreeing to a deal may not bode well for the chances of him signing. However, the Ravens reportedly had a “good visit” with Watkins and are in fact interested in locking him up, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

If Watkins also leaves his visit with the Colts today without a contract, it could increase the likelihood that the Ravens land him. It’s also possible that he could meet with another team or two this week and weigh his options before making a decision. Either way, the Ravens clearly aren’t the only suitor for the 2019 Super Bowl champion.

What happens with Watkins could have a big impact on the Ravens’ strategy heading into the draft next month. If they can sign him, that may lower or remove the need to draft a receiver in the first two rounds. It could also keep them from looking to acquire a wideout on the the trade market.

If they don’t sign Watkins, however, they’d certainly be more likely to explore either of the options listed above. Frankly, it’d almost be a necessity given the current state of the team’s wide receiver room. There aren’t too many options remaining on the free agent market.
