The home stretch begins

In one month, the Baltimore Ravens may be entering an empty M&T Bank Stadium to take on the Cleveland Browns. One month from today, we may witness the return of America’s beloved sport. With bated breath, we hope football arrives on schedule.

I’m not certain it will arrive. We’ve watched various college divisions called off their fall seasons these past few days, but just like Lloyd Christmas, we’re all clinging on with the phrase, “So you’re saying there’s a chance?”

Camp has begun, players, coaches and staff are being tested. Facilities are sanitizing on an endless cycle. Masks and face coverings are being worn by all Ravens and hopefully by their fans.

We’re one month away. One month from finding out who will start at right guard with the retirement of Marshal Yanda. One month from watching Calais Campbell and Derek Wolfe stand beside Brandon Williams in the trenches. One month from Lamar Jackson stepping onto the field as the reigning League MVP. One month from all 32 teams being equal with a 0-0 record.

As I said, with bated breath, we hope football arrives on schedule.
