Ravens vs. Chiefs is the biggest rivalry in the NFL right now

NFL: Baltimore Ravens at Kansas City Chiefs Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

10 years, $503 million. The new contract extension of the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and 2018 NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes is a mighty one that will no doubt be the new gold standard for QB contracts. There is also no doubt that Mahomes deserves it, especially after adding Super Bowl LIV MVP to his resume this past February.

What isn’t a question in most people’s minds is that the Chiefs are the current favorites to win the chip again this coming season, but it’s not exactly as cut and dry as singing your name on a ginormous new deal. The Ravens are right behind them, itching for the opportunity to avenge their recent defeats at the hands of Kansas City.

The new rivalry began on Week 14 of the 2018 season, with an overtime game that the Chiefs were ultimately able to pull off. The result gave Lamar Jackson his first loss as a starter in the NFL. After that, the two teams faced again in Week 3 of the 2019 season, where again the Chiefs prevailed in another close game.

Now, the Ravens and Chiefs are set to face off in Week 3 of the 2020 season in a Monday Night Football clash of the titans at M&T Bank Stadium. At the time of writing this, the Chiefs are the favorites to win the Super Bowl at 5-1 odds, however Baltimore sits right behind them at 13-2 odds.

With the Patriots coming back down to earth, and no other established top tier teams having the history these two teams do, it’s a clear cut answer that these two are the battle to watch this upcoming season.
