Ty Johnson (RB, New York Jets)
ESPN ownership: 0.3%
Week 13 stats: 22 carries, 104 rushing yards, 1 touchdown; 2 receptions, 13 receiving yards
Frank Gore exited in the first quarter of Sunday’s game with a concussion. Without Gore, Johnson produced the first 100-yard rushing game by a Jets’ running back this season. Interestingly, Johnson’s 22 carries were also a new single-game season-high for all Jets’ running backs. His path to touches may be clear again next week. La’Mical Perine is on the IR, and Frank Gore might not be able to play next week. Regardless, it is hard to see the Jets turning away from the 23-year-old Johnson now.
Cam Akers (RB, Los Angeles Rams)
ESPN ownership: 35.2%
Week 13 stats: 21 carries, 72 rushing yards, 1 touchdown; 1 reception, 22 receiving yards
Akers was unquestionably the lead back for the Rams on Sunday against the Cardinals. Darrell Henderson Jr. and Malcolm Brown had only three carries each. Still, it is worth noting that Henderson gained 49 yards on his three carries, while Akers averaged only 3.4 yards per carry. Additionally, Henderson led the Rams in carries in the week prior. Hopefully, Akers’ workload on Sunday is merely the beginning of a trend that will continue to the end of the season.
Keke Coutee (WR, Houston Texans)
ESPN ownership: 11.6%
Week 13 stats: 8 receptions. 141 receiving yards
Will Fuller V is suspended. Randall Cobb is on the IR. Kenny Stills was released. We knew that the remaining pass-catchers on the Texans would benefit, but Coutee’s performance against the Colts exceeded expectations. Right now, he has the second-most receiving yards this week. He even led the Texans in both targets and receptions. Coutee should continue to thrive in Houston’s pass-heavy offense. He should be added in the majority of leagues.
