As we hit the dog days of the NFL offseason, and teams are gearing up for training camp and preseason, this is often a time for fans to get excited about the upcoming season. For Baltimore Ravens fans, the upcoming season is one full of excitement, for various reasons of course. But which positions should fans be most excited for in the upcoming season?

The Ravens are deep at many positions, and picking just a few of them is difficult, but here are the positions fans should be most excited for when looking to the 2019 NFL season.

Wide Receiver

We’ll start with the Ravens first-round draft choice that generated much excitement back in April: Marquise “Hollywood” Brown. Sure, Baltimore doesn’t have a long history of success when it comes to drafting receivers in the first round (see Perriman, Breshad), but Brown certainly looked like he could fit in this offense well during college. Brown has speed to burn, and watching him connect with Lamar Jackson this season will be special.

Shifting our attention to another speedy receiver on the Ravens roster, Chris Moore looks primed for a big season and deserves the praise that has been given to him thus far this offseason. Moore is a serious breakout candidate in 2019 as he factors into a bigger role with the team.

In addition to Brown and Moore, Baltimore drafted Miles Boykin in the third round of the NFL draft, and Willie Snead IV is returning for his second season with the Ravens as well. Sure, there is no one “big name,” but this group certainly has the potential to have people talking come September.

Outside Linebacker

Certainly one of the positions that made headlines this offseason is outside linebacker, although not for the best of reasons. The departure of Terrell Suggs is going to sting for a while, not just for his impact on the field, but also his leadership off of it. However, there are still reasons to be optimistic for this group.

Matthew Judon showed last season he is ready to assume a full-time role for this team as one of the better pass-rushers the Ravens will deploy. A breakout season is coming for Judon this year and he will become a household name in 2019.

Tim Williams has been a little bit of a disappointment for Baltimore thus far, but there is certainly an opportunity for him to step up in a big way for Baltimore this season. Williams has the potential to be an impact pass-rusher and this could be the season he unlocks it.

The Ravens also made news a few weeks into free agency when they signed Pernell McPhee and Shane Ray. McPhee had some of his best career seasons in Baltimore, and Ray is a former first-round pick who has all the skills needed to play a big role for Baltimore this season.

Those four players alone give the Ravens a deep core with potential to be one of the best position groups on the team.

This is more or less just an opportunity to talk up Earl Thomas and discuss how big of an impact he can have. Thomas is one of the best safeties in the NFL and being placed in the Baltimore system will give him even more of an opportunity to grow and shine.

The departure of Eric Weddle will be felt, but Thomas is more than qualified to step in and handle his role next to incumbent starter Tony Jefferson. This position group also boasts Anthony Levine who will surely have a role on this defense similar to what he did last year, along with his stellar contributions on special teams.

Second and fourth year safeties DeShon Elliott and Chuck Clark could also step up in a big way this season. There has certainly been a buzz around Elliott since OTA’s, and both he and Clark could certainly be counted on to step up if either Jefferson or Thomas were to go down.

There are certainly many more positions Ravens fans can be excited for this upcoming season, including the quarterback spot with Lamar Jackson entering his sophomore season and the running back rotation featuring free agent signing Mark Ingram.
