CB Bashaud Breeland schedules visit with the Ravens

NFL: Washington Redskins at Los Angeles Chargers Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Ravens are arguably one of the deepest teams in the league at cornerback, but that does not mean they are done evaluating potential players at that position. In fact, they plan to host former Redskins’ corner Bashaud Breeland after he concludes a visit with the Browns in Cleveland.

This is a very interesting development. The 26 year old left Washington after performing pretty well over the course of his rookie contract, and if not for a medical snag voiding a three-year contract with the Panthers, he would have already been signed at the opening of free agency in March.

Despite the nice start he had to his career, it is still difficult to figure out how exactly he would fit into the Ravens defensive backfield. Baltimore is five deep at corner, with Jimmy Smith, Marlon Humphrey, Tavon Young, Brandon Carr and Anthony Averett all currently locks to make the team.

Still, when a younger player with eight interceptions over four seasons remains on the market as we approach August, there is no harm in kicking the tires on a visit. Adding another starting caliber defender into the secondary could be a wise move for the Ravens, considering their issues with injuries over the past few seasons.
