Stunner. An absolute stunner of a pick by Cleveland after they just made one at number one overall by picking QB Baker Mayfield. Instead of going with what everyone believed to be conventional wisdom by taking Bradley Chubb at fourth overall, they go with local product Denzel Ward, the top cornerback of the class out of Ohio State.
To say this is a surprise would be an understatement. It’s been the belief for weeks that the Browns would end up with a quarterback (probably a different one) and either Chubb or Saquon Barkley. Well apparently John Dorsey was slow playing us all, but regardless it looks like he’s gotten his guys.
How does this affect the AFC North? Well, it certainly isn’t good for the quarterbacks. As much of a shock as this pick is in the moment, Ward is a spectacular football player and fills a position of serious need for Cleveland.
In a division that likes to throw the football with receivers such as A.J. Green, Antonio Brown, and the great Willie Snead to deal with, Ward is a big time addition for the Browns with all things being equal. While we didn’t expect this to happen, it’s still a solid move for Cleveland.
For updates on them, and the rest of the AFC North (especially the Ravens), make sure you keep it right here.
