Baltimore Beatdown readers draft the first round of the 2018 NFL draft: Cincinnati Bengals

NFL: Combine Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Only five votes separated Derrius Guice from overtaking Harold Landry as the Detroit Lions’ pick in the Beatdown mock draft. But, when the poll closed, Detroit added the Boston College pass rush extraordinaire.

The Cincinnati Bengals are on the clock!

Previous voting links:

  1. Cleveland Browns — QB Sam Darnold
  2. New York Giants — RB Saquon Barkley
  3. New York Jets — QB Josh Rosen
  4. Cleveland Browns — DE Bradley Chubb
  5. Denver Broncos — QB Baker Mayfield
  6. Indianapolis Colts — OG Quenton Nelson
  7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers — SS Derwin James
  8. Chicago Bears — LB Tremaine Edmunds
  9. San Francisco 49ers — DB Minkah Fitzpatrick
  10. Oakland Raiders — LB Roquan Smith
  11. Miami Dolphins — DT Vita Vea
  12. Buffalo Bills — QB Josh Allen
  13. Washington Redskins — CB Denzel Ward
  14. Green Bay Packers — DE Marcus Davenport
  15. Arizona Cardinals — QB Lamar Jackson
  16. Baltimore Ravens — WR D.J. Moore
  17. Los Angeles Chargers — OT Mike McGlinchey
  18. Seattle Seahawks — OT Connor Williams
  19. Dallas Cowboys — WR Calvin Ridley
  20. Detroit Lions — OLB/DE Harold Landry

Possible picks:

OG Will Hernandez — Cincy needs help along the offensive line, and Hernandez is a good value pick here. He’s the second best guard in the draft and they can snatch him up at 21, his prospect rank according to Daniel Jeremiah.

LB Rashaan Evans — I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve read an Adam Schefter tweet reading, “Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict has been suspended.” SB Nation has literally published articles detailing this nuisance. Maybe acquiring a new linebacker could help them. Evans is a great coverage linebacker who, unlike Burfict, cares for human life. Also, their linebacker unit consists of average linebackers. Getting new talent in the middle of their defense could help.

DT Da’Ron Payne — The Bengals have Geno Atkins and Michael Johnson up front, but re-stocking a year early is always better than a year late. Here they can acquire a strong Alabama product in the first round.

CB Josh Jackson — Nothing like pairing a young cornerback with another. The Bengals drafted William Jackson III back in 2016 and can further address the need at corner with the pick-machine that is Jackson.

CB Mike Hughes — Some are uncertain on Jackon’s talent being a one-hit wonder, or the real-deal. I believe Mike Hughes is on the same level as Jackson, therefore he’ll also be in for the voting.
