The NFL draft is slowly creeping onto the horizon, and we’re beginning to enter the territory where the players have been broken down to an ad nauseum point and there isn’t much left to actually discuss. That means, with the few weeks we have left, we really only have mock drafts and other types of conjecture to fill the time while we wait.
One media outlet that makes mock drafts a weekly staple is Bleacher Report’s “Stick To Football” podcast, who did so again on Monday with a two round mock. One of the hosts, Connor Rogers, held the Ravens pick, and he made a somewhat surprising selection for them at sixteen:
“Alright here’s the first surprise of the mock draft, Lamar Jackson number sixteen overall to the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens have been pretty clear they’re interested in him. My only holdup here is what do they do with Joe Flacco’s money? He’s been really bad the last two years, so I think they are interested in the quarterbacks. This would be a shocker but I’m still convinced Jackson finds his way into the top 20-25 picks of this draft.”
While this would be a surprise pick as Rogers notes, the buzz has been building surrounding a potential first round play for a quarterback from Baltimore. There’s no way to tell if this interest is legitimate or if the Ravens front office are trying to bait other teams to jump in front of them to get Jackson and push position players to them at 16.
Regardless, the only way to tell will be to see how it all plays out in a few weeks. By then we’ll know if it’s another year of Joe, or if the torch will be officially passed as has been predicted here.
