Now into November, the NFL season is no longer young, and the margin for error continues to shrink with each passing week. To remain in contention for a postseason appearance, Week 9 is crucial for several teams across the league. All season, the Baltimore Beatdown staff is predicting who will emerge victorious every week. Readers can continue to vote for each matchup in the polls at the bottom of this article.
Current standings:
- Kyle A. (80-39)
- Frank (79-40)
- Sage (76-43)
- Readers (74-45)
- Jake and Vas (73-46)
- Zach (72-47)
- Kyle B. (71-48)
- Dustin (70-49)
- Logan (68-51)
An analysis of the Baltimore Beatdown staff picks
Consensus winners
- The Bears will beat the Bills (CHI -10.0)
- The Texans will defeat the Broncos at Mile High (DEN -1.0)
- The Cowboys will get a win on Monday Night Football over the Titans (DAL -6.0)
Another week, another nightmare quarterback situation in Buffalo. The Bears are primed for an easy day, regardless of what replacement signal caller the Bills are left to depend on. Houston has won five straight and has not played since last Thursday, while Denver continues to sink to the bottom of the AFC West standings after being swept by Kansas City. Dallas is certainly not without flaws, but Tennessee has dropped their last three games, struggling behind an injured Marcus Mariota.
‘Lone wolf’ picks
- Kyle A. is the only writer to select the Lions to defeat the Vikings (MIN -5.0)
- Zach goes against the rest of the staff in selecting the Buccaneers to beat the Panthers (CAR -6.0)
- Logan is alone in predicting the Browns to shock the Chiefs (KC -8.5)
The Vikings, headlined by Adam Thielen, have a top 10 offense, which should give the Lions 19th ranked defense fits. With Tampa Bay giving the keys back to Ryan Fitzpatrick, the lack of continuity should prove to hinder the team’s ability to defeat a divisional opponent on the road. The Browns fired Hue Jackson, turning the team over to Gregg Williams in the interim. While many are heralding the return of Mayfield vs. Mahomes, the Chiefs red hot offense should continue to roll.
Will the Ravens sweep Pittsburgh?
As the home team, Baltimore is slightly favored for their second game against the Steelers (BAL -3.0). However, only 22 percent of the Beatdown staff has chosen the Ravens to stop their losing streak this week. The Steelers have rebounded from a slow start to year, winning their last three contests. Pittsburgh arrives in Baltimore with the league’s fourth ranked offense, and Ben Roethlisberger and company will look to wear down a Ravens defense that gave up 36 points in Carolina last week and allowed Cam Newton to record a 116.9 passer rating, his highest mark on the year.
