An analysis of the Baltimore Beatdown staff picks
Consensus winners
- Vikings defeat the Cardinals (MIN -10.5)
- Texans win against Bills (HOU -9.5)
- Bears beat the Dolphins (CHI -3.0)
- Packers victorious over the 49ers (GB -9.5)
Despite picking up their first win of the season last week, Arizona’s 24th ranked defense will likely be overwhelmed by Minnesota’s 14th ranked offense, lead by Adam Thielen who is the first player in the Super Bowl era to have 100+ yards receiving in each of his team’s first five contests.
While the Bills were able to sneak by the Titans in Week 5, the Texans defense at home should be able to contain a lackluster Buffalo team. The Dolphins produced an epic collapse against the Bengals last Sunday, and Miami will face the Bears second ranked defense coming off a two game losing streak. After losing to the Lions last week, the Packers will look to get back on track against a 1-4 San Francisco squad.
‘Lone wolf’ picks
- Vas is the only writer to pick the Buccaneers to defeat the Falcons (ATL -3.5)
- Logan is alone in selecting the Broncos to beat the Rams (LAR -7.0) and the Cowboys to win against the Jaguars (JAX -3.0)
Despite the Steelers pummeling Atlanta 41-17 in Week 5, Baltimore Beatdown has little faith in the Jameis Winston led Bucs. Winston threw two interceptions in a Week 4 blow out loss to Chicago.
For the second consecutive week, Logan is the only writer to predict that the Rams undefeated season will come to an end. Denver has dropped their last three games, most recently giving up 34 points to the Jets. The Rams have the best offense in football, and should be able to exploit a faltering Broncos team.
With speculation about Jason Garrett’s future growing each week, Dallas is on a disappointing trajectory. Jacksonville has failed to match their Week 2 proficiency against the Patriots but will look to take advantage of a struggling Dak Prescott who has just five touchdowns, four interceptions and two fumbles on the season.
Ravens rebound?
In many ways, a team is only as good as their last outing, and Baltimore’s offense looked truly abysmal in Week 5. Heading into one of their toughest stretches of the year, the Ravens need their second road victory to set the tone for the coming weeks. As the visiting team, Baltimore is once again favored by three points. However, the majority of the Beatdown staff believes that Tennessee will improve to 4-2 and the Ravens will be a .500 football team.
