With the Baltimore Ravens eliminated from playoff contention in Week 17, we turn our attention to the postseason. It was an entertaining regular season in the NFC, Atlanta is the only team of the six remaining combatants who made it to the playoffs last season. With plenty of intriguing storylines and fresh faces, expect a January to remember.
Philadelphia earned the one seed with 13 wins, but will be without injured franchise quarterback Carson Wentz. The Eagles are led by a ferocious defensive line and several bonafide playmakers on offense. The other team to receive a bye is the Vikings. They overcame multiple important injuries to win 13 games based on the abilities of their dynamic receiver duo and outstanding defense at all three levels.
The premier game of the wildcard round pits a revenge minded Atlanta team against the upstart Rams. The Falcons rely on a diverse offense and fast, young defense. The Rams completed a dramatic one year turnaround and boast marquee players on both sides of the ball, including Todd Gurley and Aaron Donald.
The other wildcard matchup is an all NFC South affair. Polarizing Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, along with All-Pro linebacker Luke Kuechly, will have to carry the load when they travel to New Orleans. Veteran Saints quarterback Drew Brees will be aided by arguably the NFL’s best rookie class in his quest for a second championship.
