Tyus Bowser nominated for NFL.com’s Pepsi Rookie of the Week

Bowser was one of the standouts in Week 2

The Baltimore Ravens went defensive heavy in the 2017 NFL Draft, to a lot of mixed feelings. It was certainly polarizing and interesting to say the least, to see general manager Ozzie Newsome only pick two offensive players, both offensive lineman, in a draft after a 2016 season mired in offensive mediocrity.

Bowser has impressed the coaching staff all throughout mini-camp and OTA's, and he continued that trend into preseason action.

The draft has paid defensive dividends already, as the second-round pick out of Houston, Tyus Bowser, produced game-changing plays in Week 2.

On Sunday, in only his second NFL game, Bowser contributed in a big way in the win over the Cleveland Browns as he recorded two tackles, a sack, and a big interception off quarterback Kevin Hogan. The interception set up a touchdown pass from Joe Flacco to Jeremy Maclin before halftime, giving the Ravens a 21-7 lead at that point in the game.

NFL.com is recognizing Bowser for his performance this week, as he is nominated for NFL.com's Pepsi Rookie Of The Week. Other nominees include Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt (Hunt won the voting for Week 1), Seattle Seahawks running back Chris Carson, Indianapolis Colts safety Malik Hooker, and San Francisco 49ers defensive end Solomon Thomas.

Also check out Glenn Clark's interview with NFL.com senior writer Gil Brandt, who thinks Bowser can win Defensive Rookie Of The Year. For the Ravens, they hope Sunday's performance by their young 2nd-round pick was a sign of things to come, which makes this Ravens defense even more of a threat.
