Baltimore Beatdown Monday Mailbag: Should the Ravens target a new WR?

Ravens Q&A for 7/3/17

Question

Answer

Absolutely not on Dorial Green-Beckham. From my work covering the Eagles, I can genuinely tell you that he is awful. One thing we often forget is that size is not a skill, and even if it was, it’s a skill DGB fails to utilize. I’ve seen him drop numerous passes and fail to win at the catch point against smaller corner backs. I’m a solid no on the DGB front, but Barnidge is an interesting name. I think that the Ravens will be ok at tight end if they can stay healthy the rest of the way. Based on Bisciotti’s recent comments, I don't think they're prioritizing receiver right now; I believe they're looking toward the offensive line, which brings us to our next question.

Question

Answer

As I mentioned in the last answer, Bisciotti said the team has turned their attention to the offensive line. I think they’re still monitoring the Nick Mangold situation, as well potential training camp cuts. The biggest issue with waiting for cuts is that the NFL now has one cut day where they go all the way down to 53. That doesn't give a free agent a lot of time to learn the playbook or protections, or even build continuity with the other linemen. The market is thin, but the Ravens are surely still monitoring it.

Question

Answer

Definitely Tony Jefferson! Jefferson recently offered to sign and return the jersey of any fan that buys his jersey. You can find the details for that here, but its a deal that’s too good to pass up. If you elect not to go the Jefferson route, I would suggest Marshal Yanda or C.J. Mosley.

Question

Answer

I don't think the Ravens would change their selection based on Pitta and Waller alone. O.J. Howard is a really nice player and I liked him a lot, but the Ravens still have depth at TE, the only question is can they stay healthy and bounce back from some serious injuries. I’m high on Maxx Williams if he can check those boxes, but I don't think Humphrey was a bad pick. The Ravens are still unproven at cornerback, and Humphrey is a player they can develop to play alongside Jimmy Smith and in front of Eric Weddle and Tony Jefferson. It’s fair to question it, but even now, the Ravens made the right decision.
