Anquan Boldin visiting mystery team Sunday; could he return to the Ravens?

Super Bowl XLVII - Baltimore Ravens v San Francisco 49ers

Recently, Anquan Boldin mentioned his conversations with multiple teams about signing a contract. He told Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that he has a visit scheduled for Sunday. He wouldn’t name the team he’s visiting.

Could the mystery team be the Baltimore Ravens?

Boldin wants to play for a contender, and the Ravens, though their record argues otherwise, look like contenders. Their re-loaded defense and big pick-ups in the offseason and NFL Draft are noteworthy. Also among reasons to sign Boldin, his dominating play years ago with Charm City.

The Ravens have all the speed this team can handle at receiver. Jeremy Maclin, Breshad Perriman and Mike Wallace are all nine-route killers, among their other skills. Boldin brings to the table a tenacity none of the receivers possess. Not knocking any current receivers on the Ravens, because not many players in the entire league are more ferocious than Q.

At almost 37 years of age, Boldin won’t be asked of much. Physical catches and short-to-intermediate routes keep him moving the chains. He won’t be called upon for 80 catches, as he was once relied upon for the Ravens. With a spread set of Maclin, Wallace, Boldin, Benjamin Watson and Danny Woodhead coming out of the backfield, Baltimore’s passing threats range all spectrum's of talent.

A one-year deal with Baltimore would keep the cap books clear in the next few years, while also spending to the cap ceiling for this season. If Baltimore can’t find a center or guard to fill the offensive line, they shouldn’t leave the money lying around.
