Why they'll lose to the Ravens
The Colts have a top five quarterback in place, there’s no doubt about that, but the team is finding it difficult to protect him. In 2015 Andrew Luck took all he could before injuries caught up to him and derailed the Colts’ season. In 2016, Luck bounced back, but the Colts still gave up 41 sacks, the second most in the NFL. Heading into 2017, the Colts will be banking on progression as opposed to acquisitions in the offensive line department. If Indy can't keep Luck upright, then they'll have no shot of winning. On the defensive side of the ball, the Colts have acquired young talent, but relying on the youth to provide major jolt is a gamble that isn't likely to pay off. If the Ravens can hold Luck in check, this is a win they should secure before hosting Cincinnati in Week 17.
Why they'll beat the Ravens
The Colts’ success begins and ends with Andrew Luck. The team has playmakers around Luck, but they need an efficient outing from there signal caller to provide a significant impact. If Luck can get rid of the ball quickly and buy himself time in the pocket then the Ravens’ defense will have its hands full. In addition to Luck, this game will be played on a short week, which could impact the quality of the Ravens’ play. If the Colts’ talented young defense emerges throughout the season, it could give Flacco a headache and force unwanted turnovers. It’s key to keep to ball away from opposing offenses, but even more so when the opposing offense has one of the game’s best quarterbacks.
