Ryan Jones, a former linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens and New York Giants, was killed on Sunday in Reno, Nevada, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal. He was one of three men who were shot. He died on the scene. Jones was 26 years old.
At about 8:20 PM on Sunday, officers were called to the 200 block of Talus Way. Three men were found shot and one of those men was Jones. Then, Jones passed away at the scene. The other victims were sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The Reno Police Department is now involved in an ongoing investigation.
Jones was the first player in Montana Tech history to sign an NFL contract. After playing with the Gold Diggers ffrom 2011-13 and having a strong pro day, he would sign with the Baltimore Ravens in 2014 after going undrafted.
Standing in at 6’4 and 245 lbs., Jones was an imposing figure. That size, he would use to convert from defensive end to linebacker. Jones would then be waived by the Ravens just a month later and given an injury settlement. In 2015, Jones would sign with the Giants and was waived two months later. He was once again given an injury settlement.
