John Harbaugh believes Colin Kaepernick will, ‘absolutely be signed’

“intellectually lazy” to suggest teams are avoiding Kaepernick for political stances

While fans witnessed Mark Sanchez, Mike Glennon, Brian Hoyer and Nick Foles signing their respective contracts, a former NFL quarterback is left unsigned: Colin Kaepernick.

The 2012-2013 standout star is currently a free agent, waiting for the phone to ring. Some speculate it’s due to his political stances, or fear of President Trump tweeting about the team signing him.

"There was an article today, it was reported, that NFL owners don't want to pick him (Colin Kaepernick) up because they don't want to get a nasty tweet from Donald Trump, do you believe that?" - Donald Trump (Chicago Tribune)

While the President has his opinion, Head Coach of the Baltimore Ravens, John Harbaugh, has his.

“I absolutely think he’s going to get signed,” Harbaugh said, speaking to reporters during the AFC coaches’ breakfast during the Annual League Meeting in Phoenix. “I agree with Jim (Harbaugh). He can win games for people.”

Harbaugh also called it “stupid” and “intellectually lazy”, suggesting NFL teams are refusing to sign Kaepernick for kneeling during the national anthem.

Other coaches have voiced their opinion on the matter, including Vance Joseph, Denver Broncos head coach. “It does not bother me,” Joseph said, about Colin’s personal opinions. “You have to give the players a right to voice their personal concerns. That doesn’t bother me at all. Colin, you would hope he gets evaluated as a quarterback first and then his personal views can be put to the side a little bit.”

While Joseph believes in the good, he also gives a possibility for why Colin is without a contract, “It could be be numerous issues as far as he’s a veteran quarterback, his number could be really high, he doesn’t fit a certain offensive philosophy.”

The same day as Joseph’s possible reason for the lack of signing, high price-tag, Mike Florio’s source said it’s “completely false” to suggest Kaepernick is requesting $9 million or more per year.

While Harbaugh says it’s ‘intellectually lazy’ to think Kaep is unsigned for his political stances, I personally don’t believe it’s wrong to entertain the idea. Colin is absolutely worth a roster spot somewhere. Mike Glennon received a 3-year/$45 million dollar deal, but Kaepernick, a former starter in the league, is still without a contract. The reasoning could be due to a multitude of reasons, but the backlash from Americans everywhere, including the President, could cause a few to turn him away.
