Biggest choke or not even getting a shot?

NFL: Super Bowl LI-New England Patriots vs Atlanta Falcons Dan Powers-USA TODAY Sports

Sorry, Atlanta Falcons fans but, 28-3. 28-3. 28-3! My goodness, the biggest choke job I've ever seen. A 28-3 lead late in the third quarter, the Falcons dominated every facet of the game. All of a sudden, everything that could go wrong went wrong. The Patriots came back and wound up winning the darn thing in overtime. Rightfully so, you've heard everything and under the sun about Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, but boy they should seriously give the Falcons gift baskets for the collapse.

Ever since the loss, other fans of NFL teams have been mocking Falcons fans for their teams epic collapse. It has become the victim of memes and of course the now infamous and way overdone "crying Jordan". As you would expect, the ones laughing the most are fans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New Orleans Saints, and Carolina Panthers: A.K.A, the NFC South. Here's the thing, all those teams didn't make the playoffs this season. The Panthers even lost last years Super Bowl. Of course, Ravens fans have done the same thing mainly due to the whole Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco conversations. The Ravens missed the playoffs as well.

This isn't a new thing, it's common throughout all of sports. Whether a team was in the playoffs but didn't get to the championship game or flat-out missing the playoffs, you will always see those teams fans react to the losing team of the championship game with laughter because they lost. Even though their team didn't get to the championship game. The Ravens have been guilty of some chokes as well. The 2010 AFC Divisional playoff collapse against the Pittsburgh Steelers and the 2011 AFC Championship game against the Patriots come to mind. Heck, The Ravens were terrifyingly close to the same collapse the Falcons did, in Super Bowl XLVII. Ravens fans were oh so close to being in a Falcons fans shoes just four years ago.

I always wonder why this is the kind of reaction that happens after every Super Bowl, World Series etc., Wouldn't you want to be in the biggest game of the year instead of not being there? Collapse or no collapse? My brother is a big New York Jets fan, who has experienced some ups, but a lot of downs with the team. I asked him this question of whether he would rather the Jets miss the playoffs or collapse in the Super Bowl? I figured he would answer the Super Bowl because the Jets have not been to the Super Bowl in nearly 50 years. He said, "Miss the playoffs, easy!" I understood what he was talking about, but it did shock me nonetheless.

So, I ask you. Would you rather miss the playoffs or go to the Super Bowl and lose via collapse? My opinion, and call me crazy, I'd rather the Ravens get to the Super Bowl even with the collapse. At the end of the day, the Super Bowl is the Super Bowl. I want the Ravens to get a shot at the title and the biggest prize in sports. Despite this, I understand rather missing the playoffs. The Falcons will go down as having not just the biggest collapse in NFL history, but one of the biggest collapses in all of sports history. Even if you miss the playoffs, you never want your team to be a horrible part in history and be the face of jokes for many years to come. It's very embarrassing.

Either way, both aren't good results for your team.
