Steve Smith Sr. spent almost two decades torching NFL defenses with the Carolina Panthers and Baltimore Ravens, and will soon be taking the feisty personality that made him an icon into NFL Network studios.
The five time pro bowler has a reputation for making his opinions known, and will now join a platform that has a good reputation for bringing in former players and developing them into on screen personalities, namely, Marshall Faulk, Kurt Warner, Michael Irvin and Deion Sanders.
Per an NFL Network press release, Smith expressed his gratitude for what the game gave him, and his excitement at joining the only network that exclusively covers it.
The multi-year deal confirms appearances by Smith on NFL Gameday First, as well as NFL Gameday Morning, where he will make his debut appearance on Sunday’s eight hour special edition.
Its tough to predict how former players will transition into this type of role, but Smith’s various recent appearances on both ESPN and FS1 indicate that he has had this on his mind for a while.
If he prepares for it as hard as he prepared on Sundays, then the transition will be undoubtedly smooth.
