Joe Flacco ruled out for game after taking a cheap shot from Kiko Alonso

Bush league play

NFL: Miami Dolphins at Baltimore Ravens Patrick McDermott-USA TODAY Sports

Joe Flacco has been placed in concussion protocol after taking a hit to head from Kiko Alonso. Below is a video of the play:

This is a complete cheap shot from Kiko Alonso. Flacco is sliding, and Alonso drills him in his head/neck area. The hit was powerful enough to knock Flacco’s helmet off.

Flacco immediately left the game and was put in concussion protocol. Ryan Mallett entered the game in Flacco’s place. Mallett would throw a touchdown pass to Ben Watson, giving the Ravens a 20-0 lead.

This is a completely unacceptable play from Alonso. Alonso will almost undoubtedly be suspended and fined for the play, and it should have led to Alonso’s ejection from the game. A player just cannot take that type of a shot at a quarterback while they are sliding.

Updates on Flacco to come as they become available.

Update (10/26/17 10:17 p.m.): Flacco has been ruled out for the game.
