2017 - Another year lost to injuries

In light of the disappointing performance against the Bears and things pointing towards an 8-8 season, there are plenty of places to point fingers. While frustrating to fans, very few NFL teams have the depth to stay competitive after losing so many players to injuries.

IR/Out for the year: Marshal Yanda, G; Alex Lewis, G; Nico Siragusa, G; Kenneth Dixon, RB; Maxx Williams, TE; Danny Woodhead; RB; Crockett Gilmore, TE; Darren Waller; TE; Bam Bradley, LB; Brent Urban, DE; Sheldon Price, CB; Maurice Canady, CB; Brandon Boykin, CB; Tim White, WR; Albert McClellan, LB; Tavon Young, CB,

Questionable or worse for Week 7: Tim Williams, LB; Carl Davis, DT; Brandon Williams, DT; Terrance West, RB; Breshad Perriman, WR; Jeremy Maclin, WR; Jaylen Hill, CB; Matt Skura, C.

Yes, some of the players listed above are busts or nonfactors. Perriman is making Travis Taylor good. Collins is running harder and smarter than Dixon or West. Maxx Williams should change his first name to "Min." That said, it hurts to lose the best football on the roster (Yanda) and one of the best defensive players (Williams).

From a talent perspective alone, the Ravens were 50/50 in making the playoffs if healthy. With the current injury list, the odds drop to 10 percent. The real question is: Will ownership will give the front office and coaching staff a pass on the year? Personally, I think the overall age of the roster, the lack of playmakers, and the cap problems make 2018 an uphill battle. Bisciotti is a smart guy. The problem runs deeper than front office or coaching.

I think there will be a transition year where Ozzie is the face of the draft, but DeCosta or someone else is actually making the final call. If you roll the tape to August 24, DeCosta calls out four players that stood out for him: Correa, Reynolds, Clark, and Ricard. That's more wishful thinking than analysis. The Ravens have burned too many high draft picks for too long. The roster problems developed long before the 2017 injury bug.
