On Thursday, the Ravens released the jersey numbers of new Ravens, and Ravens that chose to change their numbers.
New signees include practice squad quarterback David Fales, and new return man Devin Hester. Fales is going with the number 2, while Hester is donning 14. Ryan Mink of the Ravens official website wrote that Hester wore 4 in college at Miami, and 14 may be as close as he could get to that number. Mink also noted that like Steve Smith Sr. and Anthony Levine Sr., Hester will add "Sr." to his nameplate as well. Hester wore 23 with the Bears, and 17 with the Falcons. The former is already worn by Kendrick Lewis, while the latter is the new number for wide receiver Mike Wallace.
Once the Ravens released wide receiver Jeremy Butler, 17 became available for Wallace. After wearing 11 with the Dolphins and Vikings, Wallace will try to reinvigorate his career with the number he wore during his best years in Pittsburgh.
Wide receiver Michael Campanaro got rid of his number 15, and took Wallace’s 12 which Wallace wore during the Ravens preseason.
The remainder of the number changes according to the Ravens official website:
CB Kyle Arrington – from 24 to 35
CB Maurice Canady – from 49 to 39
CB Will Davis – from 39 to 31
S Matt Elam – from 26 to 33
RB Stephen Houston – from 33 to 43
QB Ryan Mallett – from 7 to 15. 15 was Mallett’s number with the Patriots and Texans, as well as with the University of Arkansas Razorbacks.
ILB Cavellis Luckett – from 46 to 49
CB Tavon Young – from 43 to 36
CB Jerraud Powers – from 36 to 26. Powers wore 25 with the Cardinals. 25 was said to be a number that Eric Weddle might wear, but following Tray Walker’s fatal accident, the Ravens will likely honor his memory by reserving his number.
CB Shareece Wright – from 35 to 24. According to Mink, "Wright has wanted No. 24 all along, which is the number he wore in college at USC, but was stuck with No. 29 as a San Diego Charger and No. 35 last year with the Ravens. He briefly had No. 24 in San Francisco before being released."
Now you can go buy your new Devin Hester and Mike Wallace jerseys.
