Baltimore Ravens training camp: Winners & Losers, Highlights 8/4

The Baltimore Ravens Helmet

Another day, another submission on Winners & Losers for the fans. I tried to really focus on the receivers and quarterbacks today. Unless another player made a splash play I didn’t really watch for them.

Bad day at practice:

Bronson Kaufusi - He did nothing bad, but the ankle injury is sidelining the 24 year old rookie. He was expected to see playing time in the regular season, but a broken ankle will keep him on IR this season.

Offensive line - Three false starts in practice today. Not pretty at all, and this team needs discipline before the strong front in week one against the Buffalo Bills.

Return specialists - Michael Campanaro had a day off, again. The Ravens aren’t giving him rest because they plan on cutting him. This means he’s making the roster, which makes the ax all the more closer to Keenan Reynolds and Kaelin Clay’s roster chances.

Winners of practice:

Matt Elam - Something I’m very happy to report, Elam looking good in practice. During full scrimmage Elam made a great interception while being glued to the hip on his receiver. At no point was he open, and when the throw went his way Matt outstretched for the interception. Eric Weddle was screaming and shouting his praise, and charged across the scrimmage field to celebrate with Matt. With Webb receiving a day off Matt made his extra snaps worth it.

Joe Flacco - The quarterback had zero interceptions today, and during the goal line drill he completed each pass for a touchdown. Each and every day I’m hearing fans talk about how good he looks, and how excited everybody is for his return.

Terrance West - During goal line drills Terrance buried two touchdowns. He broke one tackle on the first play, yet rope-a-doped his way for six on the second effort. He’s looking to be the 3rd or 4th back on the roster.

Honorable mentions: Benjamin Watson, Chris Matthews, Tavon Young, Eric Weddle

Flacco dimed three flag routes over the shoulder to three separate receivers, all caught

Weddle had a sack & pass deflection

Jerraud Powers had an interception

Matt Judon held the line on 3rd & 2, catching Javorius before he could turn upfield

Willie Henry had a big tackle for loss on Terrance West, which has not been common

Terrance Brooks tackled Maxx Williams on the goal line, very good solo tackle work
