Throughout camp you’ve read multiple times on Benjamin Watson and Mike Wallace making big catches and scoring touchdowns from Joe Flacco, but do you really want to pull the trigger?
It’s not easy to make head or tails of this team value wise, Joe Flacco is coming off ACL injury, and Benjamin Watson may have been a one-hit wonder with Drew Brees in a volume filled role. Meanwhile, Mike Wallace as a fantasy player was really known for the big hit scoring skill back in 2012, and hasn’t really produced since.
Who I think is worth targeting:
Benjamin Watson - The man has shown in practice he is a trustworthy target as the starting tight end. News today of Dennis Pitta and a fractured finger mean that Watson will not be dethroned quickly from the TE1 slot for Baltimore. Crockett Gillmore is a surefire candidate to play, but Watson has seen the volumne of throws go in his direction. Flacco actively seeks out the big tight end for not only small passes, but goal line and deep route receptions. Keep in mind Maxx Williams hasn’t practiced much from injury, and Nick Boyle is suspended for the next 10 games, keeping Watson in the driver seat for a long time.
Steve Smith Sr. - He’s 37, so what. He’s coming off an injury, so what. The man is ready to ‘rip you to shreds’ if you’re not wearing the same jersey. I trust this man to be a playmaker in his final year. He’s fighting to prove the world he’s dependable, and that he can still produce. Not worthy of a top 10 obviously, but when you’re deeper in the draft he could be the guy that sets you apart from the pack.
Terrance West - Not only have I praised the revamped tailbacks skills, the Baltimore Ravens themselves love the skill from Terrance West. He’s a bruttish back that cut down in weight to produce at great speeds. We’ve seen in the preseason West’s toolbox filled to the brim. From jukes and cuts to stiff arms and lowered shoulders this tailback may be a fantasy sleeper. I expect Terrance to see more action come deeper in the regular season.
