For once, this injury update will be filled with good news, as many injured Ravens made a return to the practice field today, highlighted by outside linebacker Terrell Suggs.
Suggs makes a return from the PUP list today, following an Achilles tear last season. The tear occured Week 1 in Denver, and Suggs hasn’t been on the field since. The Ravens pass rush clearly missed a beat without him on the field, showing what an integral piece Suggs is to the defense. While we all hope that Suggs can return as the menace to quarterbacks that he always has been, there is the concern that he may not be the same following the injury. It will be intriguing to see whether or not he plays against the Colts this weekend.
Other Ravens to return include, safety/linebacker Anthony Levine Sr., rookie cornerback Maurice Canady, tight end Crockett Gillmore and receiver/returner Michael Campanaro.
Campanaro’s return could put an end to the competition to what seems like the last wide receiver spot. Other receivers like Kaelin Clay and Keenan Reynolds have had their chances to show that they should make the team over Campanaro while the Wake Forest product was injured, but neither Clay nor Reynolds took advantage of the extra snaps. If Campanaro returns and plays like he did before he was injured, he will make the 53 man roster.
Sidenote: Kaelin Clay was injury waived today by the Ravens.
Keep an eye on Maurice Canady, who throughout the spring and summer has drawn rave reviews. While we haven’t seen much of him on the field, if all the glistening reports on him prove to be correct, he could very well find himself on the 53-man roster come Week 1.
Today was clearly a step in the right direction on the injury front for the Ravens, let’s keep it going.
