Since 2006 the Baltimore Ravens have become the No. 1 primetime program in August. That’s right, your favorite birds are the most viewed in August. Not any big market NFC East team, the Baltimore Ravens. But one program has bested the birds twice, in 2008 & 2012.
The Olympic Games have taken the gold medal of primetime TV ratings over the Ravens.
Even against stiff competition, the Ravens have lost out only to the Olympics Opening Ceremony, Olympics Closing Ceremony and Olympics Prime Block.
During the 2015 preseason the Ravens telecasts averaged a 16.79 rating and 29 share. Most have no idea what that means and I don’t quite understand it after a 15 minute Google search and reading into multiple articles. So I instead will show comparisons of other TV programs that the Ravens preseason beat in 2015.
- Golden Globes (11.58)
- Kentucky Derby (11.83)
- NBA Finals Game 6 on ABC (14.07)
- NCAA Basketball Championship on CBS (15.47)
- Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (15.84)
- Preakness (16.77)
Puts into perspective how much football is king. Baltimore Ravens preseason bouts outrank Game 6 of the Finals. Keep in mind that game was LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers going up against the winningest team in NBA history, the Golden State Warriors. That game also had a chance for the Warriors to win the Championship.
Tomorrow question is not if you are watching TV, but if you are watching Ravens preseason football or the Olympic Games.
