Former Baltimore Raven Bernard Pierce suspended 2 games

Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Ravens made it clear last off season that any indiscretion would be dealt with quickly and with clear repercussions following the Ray Rice debacle. Nevertheless, several Ravens players were unable to keep on the right side of the law, with Bernard Pierce, Terrence Cody, and Victor Hampton all being swiftly shown the door after being charged with various offences.

Of the three, Pierce was the only one to land on his feet. Pierce was claimed off waivers by the Jacksonville Jaguars, who had questionable depth at the position. Although they signed Toby Gerhart and drafted T.J. Yeldon in the early second round, Pierce was able to snag a roster spot despite a sub-par 2013 and 2014 seasons.

Pierce was an afterthought, tallying only 6 carries in the 7 games he was active. Pierce was not brought back as a free agent and is now facing a 2 game suspension to begin the 2016 season. The suspension is thought to be for the March 2015 DUI he received, following which he was immediately released by the Ravens. He pleaded guilty in October of last year, and is under probation for one year.

Pierce is famously quoted from the incident as saying:

"Do you know what happened the last time a Ravens player got a DUI?" Pierce asked the arresting officer, according to charging documents. "I'm getting cut tomorrow, not like you care."

His words proved true. Hopefully Pierce can find his way onto an NFL roster after his suspension and prove that he belongs in the NFL.
