Every single draft has prospects who are selected in the first round who end up as total busts and players drafted on Day 2 or Day 3 that develop into Pro Bowlers. Of course, much of a player's success will depend on what team he is drafted to and how they utilize his skill set in their scheme. The guesses below represent opinions on who will exceed or fall short of their pre-draft hype, not who is necessarily the better prospect.
Predictions on underrated and overrated prospects by position:
Quarterback: Love Jacoby Brisset / Hate Jared Goff
Brissett is a Day 3 prospect with a big arm and scrambling ability. He would be a perfect backup QB to groom who played his best ball against the toughest competition. Goff is a decent prospect who does not excel in any facet of the game. His questionable accuracy and decision making make him a very risky pick in the Top 10.
Running Back: Love Alex Collins / Hate Derrick Henry
Collins is a powerful back with great vision and quickness. He is a mid round pick who will develop into a consistent workhorse for the fortunate team who selects him, Henry totaled almost 400 touches last season. As a long strider who takes time to build up speed, he will struggle at the next level when he is unable to overpower defenders.
Wide Receiver: Love Josh Doctson / Hate Will Fuller
Doctson is everything Laquon Treadwell was billed as - big physical target with strong hands who can win jump balls. He may be the only WR in the class with true #1 ability. Fuller is a one trick pony as a smallish vertical threat who drops way too many balls to be selected early in the draft.
Tight End: Love Jerrell Adams / Hate Thomas Duarte
Adams is a well rounded TE with good size, blocking prowess and pass catching ability. Duarte is a classic WR/TE tweener who is not interested in blocking and will struggle with physicality off the line on passing plays.
Offensive Tackle: Love Shon Coleman / Hate Taylor Decker
Coleman is a dominant run blocker who punishes linebackers on the second level. He has the prototypical length to excel at left tackle with room for growth coming from a gimmicky college system. Decker has short arms and his hand usage technique is very poor, he should be a mid second round prospect at best.
Interior Offensive Line: Love Christian Westerman / Hate Vadal Alexander
Westerman is an elite pass blocker with outstanding athleticism and heavy hands. Alexander is a huge man with plodding feet who is unable to sustain blocks.
Edge Defender: Love Emmanuel Ogbah / Hate Noah Spence
Ogbah is a powerful athlete with surprising speed and a variety of pass rushing moves. Spence is not a quick twitch pas rusher who lacks ideal length and strength. His character concerns should push him to the end of the second round.
Interior Defensive Lineman: Love Chris Jones / Hate A'Shawn Robinson
Jones has tremendous power, is very disruptive against both the run or pass and has versatility to contribute across the DL. Robinson plays with a high pad level and completely lacks the necessary explosion to cause disruption. He greatly benefitted from the wealth of talent on Alabama's defensive front, he is not worth a Top 25 selection in the pass heavy NFL.
Inside Linebacker: Love Scooby Wright / Hate Darron Lee
Wright is a one-man tackling machine who plays faster than his time speed due to outstanding instincts and motor. Lee misses a lot of tackles, shows poor tackling form and is beat in coverage more than a first round coverage linebacker should be.
Cornerback: Love Jalen Ramsey / Hate Eli Apple
Ramsey is a phenomenal athlete with outstanding intelligence and a magnetic personality. Apple struggles in zone coverage and has extremely poor ball awareness. His projection is based almost completely off measurables and potential.
Safety: Love Jalen Collins / Hate Darian Thompson
Collins is one of the rare DBs with centerfielder ability to break on passes and make plays. He also possesses slot corner versatility. Thompson could be limited to box safety due to his below average coverage skills and instincts.
Who do you "love"? Who do you "hate"?
