March Profile: Ravens WR Steve Smith Sr

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

In the middle of March through the end of the month, we will take a quick look at some of the key players for the Baltimore Ravens entering the 2016 season from where each key player stands in terms of the Ravens depth chart.

Steve Smith Sr.

Smith will return for a third season with the Ravens after his season. Like many other Ravens during the 2015 season, Smith had his season end early as he dealt with a torn Achilles injury in week 8 against the San Diego Chargers. Smith on the season had 46 receptions for 670 yards and three touchdowns.

In 2016, Smith will be climbing the ladder in the NFL record books as he is 39 receptions away from reaching 1,000 and he is 68 yards away from reaching 14,000 receiving yards. Smith will be looking to avenge his disappointing end to a season in 2015. And if healthy, Smith should be the Ravens number one wide receiver entering 2016.

With the addition of wide receiver Mike Wallace and second year wide receiver Breshad Perriman returning to good health, Smith could be asked to run routes as a slot receiver more often during the 2016 season matching up against linebackers and nicklebacks.
