Steve Smith Sr. set to play last game against Cincinnati Bengals

NFL: Baltimore Ravens at Pittsburgh Steelers Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

At 36 years old Steve Smith Sr. announced his pending retirement at the end of the 2015-2016 season. Before the year concluded though, Steve tore his Achilles. The injury made him debate whether or not he wanted to go out on injury, or a full season. The man played a decade and a half, and at 36 nobody made this kind of recovery. But Steve Smith did.

At 37, Smith Sr. went out and bullied cornerbacks, safeties, and scored touchdowns. He beat players down. Through fifteen games his statline for the season reads:

60 catches | 765 yards | 5 Touchdowns

The man proved he can still play, at 37 years old and recovering from a gruesome Achilles tear, he posted numbers almost unimaginable.

It looks like the man is done after next week though, with his Instagram post last night.

It’s a shame we won’t see post-season Smitty in 2016, or 2017 and beyond. Watching Steve Smith Sr. play in a Ravens jersey was a blessing, something we’ll treasure forever. I only hope he can make one more player, a Bengal, be a victim of Ice Up Son.
