We have all heard about what Ray Lewis had to say about Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco as he questioned Flacco’s passion for the game and Flacco responded. The question now is will this be a distraction for the Ravens on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys and could it linger beyond that?
I don’t think it will be a distraction for the Ravens. However, it will be something that is on the back of their minds especially Flacco’s. There were questions earlier this week as to whether or not this matchup against the Cowboys is a statement game for the Ravens. Well, if it wasn’t before, it certainly is now with what Ray had to say.
Maybe there is a method to the madness in what Ray was trying to do. Could it be that Ray was trying to get Flacco to be angry and step his game up? Possibly. Another Ravens legend, like Ray, said something similar to this about Flacco almost five years ago and his name is Ed Reed.
If you remember after the AFC Divisional playoff win against the Houston Texans, Reed criticized Flacco as he said the following via BaltimoreSun.
Flacco followed that up by playing a good game against the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game and would have had a game-winning drive if Lee Evans could catch the ball. Not mention, the Ravens could have sent the game into overtime if Billy Cundiff could make a chip shot field goal.
Ray’s comments is not what players in the locker room want to hear. But it in a way, it may be the spark that the Ravens have been looking for on offense all season.
