Today is Week 10 of the NFL season and it’s been a great week for Baltimore. The Ravens whooped up on the Browns on national television, and now they’ll be enjoying a bonus compensatory pick. It wasn’t a guarantee, but it sure was close. We can all thank Matt Schaub. Yes, Matt Schaub.
The Ravens lost a few free agents this season, Courtney Upshaw, Matt Schaub and Kelechi Osemele. Three possible compensatory picks, which by Ozzie’s standard is run of the mill. This time though, the Ravens also went out of their way in free agency, picking up players and also losing comp picks in the process. The addition of Ben Watson and Eric Weddle dropped the comp pick status to a possible one.
The Ravens added two players while losing three. It would all be moot point though if the players lost by Baltimore were cut by their next team, meaning we needed to cheer for Matt Schaub to stay on the Falcons. Thank goodness he did, because now Baltimore will likely receive a 3rd round compensatory pick. Baltimore will receive this pick for the value of Kelechi Osemele.
Once week 10 passes, the comp pick formula is set and there is no more worrying. Baltimore will be receiving a comp pick for Kelechi Osemele this season.
