A sweep of Cleveland Browns has trendy playoff implications for Baltimore Ravens

NFL: Baltimore Ravens at Cleveland Browns Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Ravens have won 15 out of the last 17 meetings against the Cleveland Browns including a 25-20 win on the road in week 2. At 4-4 on the season sitting in first place in the AFC North, the Ravens have a prime opportunity to improve to 5-4 tonight against the 0-9 Browns which will complete the season sweep.

This game looks like an ordinary game to a lot of people. But if you look closer, this isn’t an ordinary game for Baltimore. History says that playoff implications are very deciding when the Ravens face off against the Browns.

If the Ravens do complete the sweep against the Browns, history says that the Ravens will make the postseason. Each time the Ravens have swept the Browns since 2000, the team has made the playoffs nine straight times (2000, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014).

The only time the Ravens have made it to the postseason while losing to the Browns during the regular season was back in 2001. So given the recent trends, you could make the argument that Baltimore’s season could be made or broken tonight especially with a tough schedule ahead.
