The Wild Card round of the NFL Playoffs are here here and your Baltimore Beatdown writers have predictions ready. We'll keep track of them throughout the postseason and see who gets the bragging rights of choosing the perfect postseason. Saturday's slate feature the Chiefs-Texans and Steelers-Bengals.
Kansas City Chiefs vs Houston Texans
The Texans did not draw favorable reviews from us, as five of us had the Chiefs easily dispatching the Texans in a rematch of Week One, while only one of our writers had the home team pulling the upset. Here's our thoughts:
Matthew Stevens (0-0):
Chiefs 23 vs Texans 10
The Texans squeaked into the playoffs being in one of the worst divisions in the league. All without any quarterback and on the backs of J.J. Watt. Meanwhile, the Chiefs have a solid defense and an offense that will play game manager waiting for a screw up.
Wola Odeniran (0-0):
Chiefs 24 vs Texans 10
Brian Malan (0-0):
Houston 20-16
Holt Smith (0-0):
KC 24-7
Chuck Mills (0-0):
Kansas City 33 - Texans 6
The Chiefs are one of the hottest teams in the NFL, winning 10 straight after starting 1-5. The Texans made the playoffs by virtue of being the AFC South team that stank the least. The Texans don't belong in the playoffs and the Chiefs will have no trouble evicting them.
Chris Brown (0-0):
KC 31 - Houston 7
The Chiefs are very hot, very serious, and very good. The Texans benefitted from a lax schedule and a lax division. Their offense isn't nearly championship caliber. They will be exposed in tough-to-win-at Arrowhead.
Pittsburgh Steelers vs Cincinnati Bengals
The A.J. McCarron led Bengals aren't getting too much love from us either, as once again, only one writer chose the home team in this match-up.
Matthew Stevens (0-0):
Steelers 28 vs Bengals 21
The Bengals have no quarterback while the Steelers have no defense. I think the difference is an explosive Steelers offense that should be able to handle what Cincinnati has to throw at it.
Wola Odeniran (0-0):
Bengals 28 vs Steelers 17
Brian Malan (0-0):
Bengals 17 vs Steelers 31
Holt Smith (0-0):
Pitt 35-14
Chuck Mills (0-0):
Pittsburgh 28, Cincinnati 14
A.J. McCarron will have another hard day against the Steelers, while Ben Roethlisberger continues his dominance over the Bengals.
Chris Brown (0-0):
Pittsburgh 29 - Cincinnati 16
A.J. McCarron is not good enough yet. He will try to handle the pressure but it will not stop coming. Meanwhile, Pittburgh's offense will get on track and not stop.
There's a Super Bowl at stake for the teams in the postseason and there's bragging rights at stake for yours truly. I think the latter is what's really important here. Feel free to make predictions of your own below.
