We all know that Baltimore Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome loves to scan the waiver wire and look for players that can come in and contribute. After final cuts were announced yesterday, some other cuts were announced today. One of those players cut was Denver Broncos running back Montee Ball.
This tweet, from Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun, provides interesting thought to the possibility that the Ravens might be interested in adding Ball to the roster.
Ball's position coach at Wisconsin is now the running backs coach for the Ravens. After losing Lorenzo Taliaferro for a couple weeks, the Ravens may not be too thrilled with the idea of the rookie Buck Allen being the sole backup on the 53 man roster.
Ball played in only five games last year, rushing 55 times for 172 yards and a touchdown. A sub-par season last year placed Ball 4th on the running back depth chart, leading to his release.
Many expect Ball to be claimed on waivers before the Ravens even got the chance to claim him, but if he passes through waivers and the Ravens have a chance at claiming him, I think Ozzie and Co. will take a long look at possibly claiming him as insurance at a thin running back position.
