Week 1 PFF grades Hill & Lewis very positively

Will Hill & Kendrick Lewis shine

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The Ravens safety combo this season is already strutting their stuff with some extremely positive numbers. Ranked number one in the league rankings according to Pro Football Focus, they have Will Hill III as the top safety. His run stopping ability is #1 in the league and deservedly so, as he was in the backfield multiple times on Sunday blowing up rushing plays. Broncos running backs CJ Anderson and Ronnie Hillman struggled throughout the entire game. Hillman finally broke through in the fourth quarter, but nothing came of it besides a field goal. Hill found penetration in the offensive line and thoroughly embarrassed some Broncos players. Kendrick Lewis was also positively ranked in the run game, but obviously not quite to the same extent as Hill.

Both Kendrick Lewis and Will Hill tie in the coverage ranking for 8th best, a great way to start for the Ravens coming off a season where they suffered from mediocre safety play. Both safeties having positive grades after playing against an offense built on high caliber players like Emmanuel Sanders, Demaryius Thomas, Peyton Manning, and an offensive line combining two All-Pro Guards. Safety was a weak point last season besides Will Hill, so Kendrick Lewis being able to cover and stop the short passes like they did last week against the Broncos has Ravens  fans grinning knowing the back end of the secondary possesses two talented safeties who aren't allowing anything in coverage or the run.
