Maurkice Pouncey to miss most of 2015

The Steelers will have to do without Maurkice Pouncey for most of the 2015 season

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey suffered an ankle injury in the second game of the preseason against the Packers and looks to be out for the first 10 weeks of the 2015 season, which would mean that he will miss the Thursday night game against the Ravens on Week Four, which will certainly be a boon to the Ravens defense.

The Steelers are likely to put Pouncey on IR with the designation to return, which would make the Steelers' Week 12 matchup against the Seahawks the earliest date for Pouncey's return. He would also be able to play the second Ravens-Steelers matchup on Week 16 if he was healthy enough.

This isn't the first time Pouncey has suffered a severe injury. Pouncey missed all of 2013 after he tore his ACL and MCL after a teammate accidentally dove into his knee during a block. The Steelers would sign Pouncey to a five year $44 million extension that made him the highest paid center in the NFL after the season ended. Pouncey would repay the Steelers with a Pro Bowl trip and a spot on the All-Pro first team.

The Steelers will have either Cody Wallace or the recently re-signed Doug Legursky fill-in for Pouncey during his absence.
