23 sacks for Dumervil means Ravens Super Bowl

Yes sir, let's all combine individual and team goals.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Ravens outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil is preparing to doom Michael Strahan's single-season sack record this year.

10 quarterback bear hugs shy of 100 for his career, the starving sack artist has a note with "23" written on it in his locker. That, of course, is half a sack more than Strahan's, 1-and-1/2 more had Brett Favre not told his offensive linemen "let him through."

So much for integrity ... I am digressing.

Dumervil said, via The Baltimore Sun, "If I can hit that number, that’ll mean we’ll be in the Super Bowl for sure. You try to win games, you try to win championships. To me, there’s nothing more important, because you can have the stats and accolades, but if you’re sitting home, it really doesn’t do any justice."

There's a thin line between greed and passion and I'd say Doom is on the safe side. With the help of Terrell Suggs, Dumervil should continue to serve quarterbacks grass and dirt all season long; let's just hope that Andy Dalton doesn't pull off a Favre come Week 17 when the Ravens visit Cincy.

23 sacks won't guarantee us a ticket to the gates of Santa Clara next February, but do you think Suggs breaks the NFL single-season sack record in 2015?
