Ravens Top 20 #4: Jonathan Ogden Becomes Immortal

The Hall of Fame is the biggest honor in football.

Sure, winning a Super Bowl is a good thing, but let's be honest, a player can win a Super Bowl by being in the right place at the right time. A player can win a ring just by being on the practice squad of the winning team. A spot in the Hall of Fame is something a player earns by themselves. Of course, when a player is a Super Bowl champion and a Hall of Famer, it makes it that much sweeter.

Jonathan Ogden was the first pick by the Ravens in 1996. He would spend his rookie season at left guard before moving to left tackle,where he would be a star for the next decade. He would get voted to 11 Pro Bowls, five First-Team All-Pros, and six Second-Team All-Pros. Ogden would win a Super Bowl with the Ravens in 2000.

Ogden would be an excellent run blocker for Jamal Lewis and he was an excellent pass protector. Unfortunately, Ogden's talents were wasted as he spent his career protecting 15 talentless quarterbacks. Ogden would never get to protect Joe Flacco's blindside, as a turf toe injury forced him to retire after the 2007 season.

Jonathan Ogden was voted into the Hall of Fame the night before Super Bowl XLVII, his first year of eligibility. Ogden was an honorary captain for the Ravens during Super Bowl XLVII and handled the coin toss for the team. He received a Super Bowl ring after the Ravens won the game. Ozzie Newsome introduced Jonathan Ogden when he was being inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The Ravens have already had one of their draft picks enter the Hall of Fame and have two more waiting for eligibility. That's incredible for a franchise entering it's 20th season, especially seeing as the Panthers and Jaguars don't have any Hall of Famers.
