Steelers extend Mike Tomlin

The Steelers have given coach Mike Tomlin a two year extension on his contract.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

After missing the playoffs for two straight years, the Steelers went 11-5 and won the AFC North. And that has apparently left the Steelers in a giving mood.

The Steelers have had six winning seasons, five playoff appearances, four AFC North titles, two Super Bowl appearances, and one Super Bowl win in the eight seasons Tomlin has been coach of the Steelers. Tomlin is the sixth most tenured coach in the NFL behind Bill Belichick, Marvin Lewis, Tom Coughlin, Mike McCarthy, and Sean Payton. Tomlin is also the Steelers third coach since the 1969 season.

Tomlin's deal is also worth at least $7 million a year, which makes him one of the five highest paid coaches in the NFL. John Harbaugh's contract with the Ravens runs through 2017 and gives him almost $7 million per season. Something tells me that Coach Harbs will get an extension with some nice benefits in a few years as  well.
