The Jaguars currently hold a 10-7 lead against the Ravens in the all-time series. Eight of those victories came against the Ravens during the 1996-1999 seasons, where the Jags were the postseason contenders and the Ravens were the doormats. That would all change in the 2000 season.
The Jaguars were up 23-7 at halftime after two Mark Brunell to wide receiver Jimmy Smith touchdown passes and three Mike Hollis field goals. It was looking like it was going to be another blowout loss to the Jaguars, but the 2000 Ravens were made of tougher stuff than their predecessors.
Tony Banks threw touchdowns to Travis Taylor, Obafemi Ayanbadejo, and Jermaine Lewis to put the Ravens up 29-26. Mike Hollis and Matt Stover would trade field goals and Mark Brunell would hit Jimmy Smith for a touchdown to put the Jaguars up by four with 1:42 left. Tony Banks would lead the Ravens on the game winning drive and throw the game winning touchdown to Shannon Sharpe with 48 seconds left. Corey Harris would intercept Mark Brunell's desperation bomb at the Ravens 16 with four seconds left to end the game.
No one knew it at the time, but this was the turning point in the history of the two franchises. The Ravens would go on to win the Super Bowl and become one of the NFL's top teams, while the Jaguars would fade into mediocrity and eventually become one of the doormats of the NFL.
