This week's DUH award goes to Fox Sports Evan Massey! In an article this week, Massey listed the Top 5 underrated Quarterbacks. While there are people out there who are still blind, sometimes due to their own biases, those calling Flacco average are ridiculous. He has proven his worth over and over.
Here is what Massey to say about Joe:
Even though Flacco has proven himself with a Super Bowl win and quite a few playoff appearances, he still isn’t viewed as one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL. Each and every season, he puts up above-average numbers and takes care of the football, and he will do so once again in 2015. There is no question that he is one of the league’s most underrated quarterbacks, and he will prove it once again this season with the Ravens.
Even though Joe has not put up Madden-esque stats like some other quarterbacks in pass happy offenses, with more attempts, his stats have been consistent and solid despite an ever-changing cast of coordinators and receivers. With the exception of 2013 when he had an atrocious offensive line and run game, his career high in interceptions is 12. He has made the playoffs 6 out of 7 years, and won a playoff game each of those years. He has a ring, and the most impressive statistical run in playoffs history that year. Dubbed "January Joe" by Ravens' fans, Flacco has been the best playoff QB in the entire NFL for his 7 years, beating out Hall-of-Famers like Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Tom Brady.
So while some might be blind to Flacco's undeniable success and prowess, rating players with worse stats AND less success like Cam Newton ahead of him, us fans know what the Ravens have. The national media can 'underrate' him all they want, but one of these days (likely this year) Flacco is going to crush their expectations, and we will be enjoying another Lombardi!
