The year of the blockbuster trade is apparently still going strong.
Sports Illustrated has reported that the San Diego Chargers will be making a trade up to the second pick in the NFL Draft by trading Phillip Rivers all in an attempt to grab Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota.
While not Ravens news exactly, the Ravens do face off against the Chargers this season. It was expected that it would be a tough game due to how good of a quarterback Rivers is and how often he has had the Ravens' number in his career. Now, with the rumor flying that he will be leaving town and the Chargers will be starting a rookie at quarterback, the Chargers will likely want to start rebuilding officially. Thus making the game a much easier task on the schedule if this rumor proves to be true.
The Ravens will see the Chargers in week 8 before heading into the bye week. While no team is a cake walk, a rebuilding Chargers team with a rookie quarterback at the helm could be the feast that the Ravens need heading into a restful week only to flow out into two other easier matchups. This trade could easily be exactly what the Ravens would want in order to ramp up into the toughest stretch of their schedule at the back-end of the season.
It will also be interesting to see exactly how the rumored trade would adjust the draft. With the top 2 quarterbacks going off the board early and the Titans sliding back to the 17th spot, while getting their starting quarterback. Several mock drafts have the Chargers selecting one of the top two rushers in the draft, which could mean that they slide down to the Ravens at the 26th pick. Meanwhile, the Titans have bigger need at corner and defensive end than anywhere else on their roster, which might open up a top wide receiver prospect for the Ravens at their current draft spot.
What do you think will happen if the trade goes through?
