Ravens March Madness: Vote for the best free-agent signing in the Jonathan Ogden Region

In the spirit of March Madness and NFL free agency, I thought it might be fun to put together a bracket related to the Ravens, with the Baltimore Beatdown community voting for who advances and who doesn't.

What I decided to do was put 32 Ravens free-agent signings in team history and have them battle it out bracket style.

A few notes for the first round:

1) Matt Stover does not count since he was a Browns free-agent signing. When the team relocated, the Ravens did not bring over the Browns history. So in essence, Stover just kind of showed up and wasn't a free-agent signing.

2) Willis McGahee was sort of a free agent but not really. With his contract expiring the Bills traded him to the Ravens before the new league year began, and then the Ravens worked out a new deal immediately after. Since it was technically a trade, McGahee is not involved.

3) I didn't include undrafted free agents, just guys that had at least played games or been on a different roster previously.

Other than that, here goes. Each bracket is divided into four regions. This one is the Jonathan Ogden Region.

About each player and matchup:

No. 1 Elvis Dumervil vs. No. 8 Willie Anderson

Dumervil came to Baltimore thanks to the now-infamous fax machine snafu. He shouldn't be here in all honesty. But he is and the Ravens are big-time beneficiaries of the mistake. Dumervil has only been with the Ravens for two seasons but it's apparent the talent level sets him above many of those the Ravens signed and kept for longer. He had 9.5 sacks in 2013 and a whopping 17 in 2014. He and Terrell Suggs have made quite the pass-rushing duo.

After 12 years with the Bengals, the Ravens signed Anderson to a three-year, $11 million deal. The Ravens only got one year out of Anderson, though it was a pretty solid one. He started 11 regular-season games and all three postseason contests. The Ravens didn't want Anderson to retire, but the tackle decided it was time to spend more time with his family.

No. 4 Corey Graham vs. No. 5 Samari Rolle

Graham is the classic case of someone that just needs a chance to prove they can compete on the biggest stage in the NFL. A special-teamer in Chicago, who became frustrated with the lack of opportunities to play cornerback, Graham came to Baltimore, where he was told he'd be given a shot. When Lardarius Webb tore his ACL in 2012, Graham stepped in and excelled, totaling two interceptions and eight pass deflections. He picked off Peyton Manning to help set up the game-winning field goal in the AFC Divisional Round playoff game that season. He had four interceptions in 2013 before heading to Buffalo in free agency.

After seven seasons with the Titans, Rolle signed with the Ravens in 2005 and spent his final four years with Baltimore. Rolle started 47 games in four seasons and totaled eight interceptions and 30 pass deflections. His 2006 season was his best, despite starting the year slow defending the deep pass. Rolle dealt with epilepsy over the final two years of his time with the Ravens and was the team's recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award.

No. 2 Matt Birk vs. No. 7 O.J. Brigance

Birk signed with the Ravens in 2009 after a lengthy tenure with the Vikings. Offensive linemen are typically known for their intelligence as football players and Birk was the perfect example of that. He always had the Ravens in the right calls, even when his own on-field play wasn't what it was in his prime. Birk retired following the Ravens' Super Bowl XLVII championship.

Brigance was a journeyman in both the NFL and CFL. He actually won a Grey Cup Championship with the Baltimore Stallions in 1995. Following that season, Brigance signed with the Dolphins from 1996-1999 before joining the Ravens in 2000. Brigance finished second on the 2000 team with 25 special-teams tackles during the regular season. He had 10 special-teams tackles in the postseason, which included making the first tackle of Super Bowl XXXV against the Giants. Brigance is now the Ravens' senior advisor to player development and serves as a major inspiration as he continues to battle ALS.

No. 3 Trevor Pryce vs. No. 6 Cory Redding

Pryce joined the Ravens in 2006 and immediately provided a spark on defense. The 2006 team was arguably the best the Ravens had that didn't win a Super Bowl, as they won the AFC North with a 13-3 record. Pryce was part of the reason why as he tallied 47 tackles and 13 sacks. His sack-total tied a career-best. Pryce was with the Ravens until his release early in 2010.

Redding isn't a flashy player. He just comes to work and does his job. It's one reason why he still has an NFL job as he enters his 13th NFL season. With the Ravens in 2010 and 2011, Redding recorded 85 tackles and 7.5 sacks. Redding was also looked at as a veteran leader in the locker room during his time with the Ravens. He had two sacks during the 2011 playoffs, including one against the Patriots in the AFC Championship Game.
