The Ravens will have some important decisions to make during the upcoming free agency period.
There are quite a few players the Ravens will want to target in their right player, right price model, as well as bringing back some key contributors from this past year's team. Two of those players on the 2014 roster, however, will likely draw a lot of interest around the league once the legal tampering period begins on March 7.
Those two are outside linebacker Pernell McPhee and wide receiver Torrey Smith. McPhee had a career-high 7.5 sacks as a versatile player that could play inside, on the line and as a rush linebacker. Smith had career-lows in receptions (93) and yards (767) but had a career-best in touchdowns (11). Either way, Smith's downfield presence is evident, as is his penchant for drawing pass interference penalties.
As a result, NFL.com's Chris Wesseling has ranked both McPhee and Smith in his top 25 for upcoming free agents. McPhee checks in at No. 14 and Smith is No. 18. McPhee is the fourth-rated pass rusher on the list, behind Chiefs outside linebacker Justin Houston (No. 2 overall), Bills defensive end Jerry Hughes (No. 11 overall) and Steelers outside linebacker Jason Worilds.
Smith is the fifth-rated receiver on Wesseling's list, behind Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant (No. 3 overall), Broncos receiver Demaryius Thomas (No. 4 overall), Packers receiver Randall Cobb (No. 8 overall) and Eagles receiver Jeremy Maclin (No. 16 overall).
The Ravens will do what they can to bring both back. But if they reach free agency, there will likely be a demand for both players.
