Baltimore Ravens quarterback Ryan Mallett is getting his first start for the team after being signed just 12 days ago. In his first chance to show what he has, he led a 15-play 75-yard drive that ended with a gorgeous touchdown throw to wide receiver Chris Matthews. The Ravens site has it for your viewing pleasure.
It came after a great defensive stop for the Ravens to give the offense the ball back. With a strong running game going, as running backs Terrance West and Javorius Allen combined to have 38 yards on 8 rush attempts, Ryan Mallett was able to throw lasers to his wide receivers that allowed them to get extra yards after the catch. Big throws to Kamar Aiken, Maxx Williams, and Jeremy Butler kept the drive going in order to put the offense in position to put the first points on the board.
We covered it earlier, but Ryan Mallett is getting his first start and is likely auditioning for the backup quarterback job in 2016 behind franchise starter Joe Flacco. With Mallett under center, it marks the fourth quarterback the Ravens have had this season, following Joe Flacco, Matt Schaub, and Jimmy Clausen. And expertly led first drive will do his resume some good.
